Expert Witness - Drainage

Expertise in drainage, sewerage and flooding

We are able to offer the services of one of our senior staff as an expert witness in the sewerage and drainage area of civil engineering. Our expert witness' field of expertise includes matters relating to public sewers, highway drains, culverted watercourses, private drains and sewers together with the flooding caused by these conduits.

Over thirty years experience

Our expert witness has over thirty years experience in his specialist area and this means that he probably has a 'hands-on' knowledge of most problems likely to be encountered in this field. In addition he is a Chartered Engineer and also a member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management.

Our expert's past cases have included ones involving flooding from a culverted watercourse and also flooding from a highway drainage system.

The role of the expert witness

An expert witness is someone with the appropriate experience and qualifications to allow them to give their opinion on matters which are the subject of litigation and which are within their specialist area. When they are giving evidence to the court, either in the form of a report or verbally, they are independent of both parties and have a duty to the court. Their role is to help the court to understand the specialist matters involved.

The requirements for expert witnesses working on civil law cases are set out in Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR35) together with the associated Practice Direction 35. Both of these documents are published on the Ministry of Justice's website.
